NOLA Street Food Featured on Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations

Food explorer extraordinaire Anthony Bourdain’s most recent episode of No Reservations on The Travel Channel, features a delightful and delicious trip to Cajun Country. But pre-boudin, pig butchering, zydeco music, crawfish boils, and turtle stew, he spends some time in New Orleans with local actor and NOLA community champion Wendell Pierce.

They spend some time touring the Central Business District on the birthplace of Jazz, and who else should appear? Why it’s our favorite Yakamein vendor Ms. Linda Green, “The Yakamein Lady”. Viewers are given an inside scoop on the history and flavor of this much beloved, but lesser known street food, and Mr. Bourdain slurps it up with delight as Ms. Green explains her technique.

The whole segment shows how important street food is to the cuisine and culture of New Orleans.

The irony? Where they shot the segment on the street in NOLA, and where Ms. Green served the Yakamein from the back of her pickup truck? Well, it’s illegal to have any mobile food vendors in the New Orleans CBD.
